How it works
From the first idea to a finished hat in their hands, here’s what to expect, what it costs and how long it takes.
Fill in the enquiry form with who the hat is for, the occasion, the mine, company or crew, and any names and dates. Upload photos of the person, the site, machinery or logos you’d like included. Rough ideas are fine, that’s my job.
I’ll come back to you with a quote based on how detailed the design is and how many hats you need.
We plan the layout together, covering which scenes go on the sides, front and back, what lettering goes on the brim, and colours.
I supply the hard hat. Mostly 3M, but I can source your preferred brand. Standard or wide-brimmed, with or without a miner’s lamp bracket.
I paint every hat in my own style, layering airbrush, paintbrush and paint pens. Printed logos and lettering are added where the design calls for them, then everything is sealed under a tough two-pack clear coat.
Your hat arrives in my signature bag, couriered safely anywhere in Australia. Allow 3–4 weeks from design approval.

Good questions
Allow 3–4 weeks from when the design is approved. If you have a retirement or presentation date coming up, tell me when you enquire. For end-of-year and EOFY presentations, get in early.
Yes. I supply the hard hat, mostly 3M, but I can source your preferred brand if you have one. You can choose standard or wide-brimmed, with or without a miner’s lamp bracket. If you’d rather send your own hats (for example a bulk mine rescue order), just let me know.
The story. Who it’s for, the occasion, the mine or company, names and dates, and any photos you’d like included: the person, the site, machinery, crew photos or logos. Phone photos are fine.
The artwork is. I paint in my own style, layering airbrush, paintbrush and paint pens for depth and hand-drawn detail. Where a design needs crisp logos or lettering, I add those as printed decals, then seal everything under a two-pack clear coat.
Most of my hats are made as presentation pieces and keepsakes. If the hat will be worn on site, tell me when you enquire so we can check your site’s PPE requirements first.
Yes. I’ve painted full sets for mine rescue and competition teams, with each hat personalised. Tell me how many you need and your deadline, and I’ll quote the set.
Once you accept your quote, I’ll email an invoice for a deposit to get started. The balance is due on completion, before your hat is couriered. Payment by bank transfer, credit card or PayPal.
Yes, anywhere in Australia by courier. I’ve sent hats to every state.
For commissions, I only paint custom hard hats now. I no longer paint vehicles, motorbikes, helmets, guitars or other items. Looking for custom painted sneakers? Visit Mad Alice.
